As part of our activities for Safety and Environmental Month, we hosted our first e-Waste Recycling even on June 9 and 10. Associates were able to safely clear their homes old electronics such as computers, cell phones, televisions, speakers, and monitors. We teamed up with Valley City Environmental Services in Grand Rapids, MI to collect these items where they will be dismantled, recycled, and reused by Sony.

In all, we collected about 3,500 pounds of electronic items, 100 pounds of batteries, and 25 cell phones. The cell phones will be donated to Cell Phone for Soldiers. This is a program that collects old cell phones and trades them in for prepaid calling card minutes so soldiers abroad can talk to their loved ones back home.

Batteries were donated to nearby schools for a fundraising program to help buy school supplies for students.

One of the more interesting donations was an old projection television from the 1990’s complete with cabinet. It weighed about 200 pounds and was easily the largest item turned in for recycle.

We appreciate our associates’ commitment to recycling, and plan to hold more events in the future.
