How it all began
Sakichi Toyoda was born in Kosai, Japan in 1867.

His mother worked long hours in the weaving industry. Toyoda's desire to ease her burden inspired him to achieve. While still in his teens, he became an inventor. He devoted his life to the study and development of textile machinery.

Toyoda invented the wooden hand loom in 1890. Six years later, he invented a power loom. From there, he went on to develop invention after invention that pioneered a new era in the industry.

In 1926, Toyoda invented an automatic loom and founded "Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd.” In his lifetime, Sakichi was awarded 84 patents & 35 utility models and is known as one of the world’s greatest inventors.

But that was just the beginning.
